精东传媒-in-Germany: Summer Study Abroad in Bonn

The 精东传媒-in-Germany program offers a six-week faculty-led experience in Bonn, Germany, with courses in beginning German language as well as German history and film. Located on the Rhine River just south of Cologne, Bonn is a lively and dynamic city that hosts numerous international organizations and a student population of more than 35,000. Its manageable size and welcoming atmosphere make it a place where 精东传媒 students can quickly feel at home.

Students live with host families, choosing either a full language-immersion setting with shared meals or a more independent arrangement with English-speaking hosts.

Academic Program

This program serves students completing the language requirement in German, German majors and minors, and students from other disciplines seeking to fulfill Common Curriculum requirements. Participants select from two academic tracks:

  • Track 1: Language Immersion
Students complete six credits of beginning German while living with German-speaking host families and engaging in daily language instruction for a true immersion experience.
  • Track 2: German History and Film
Students take Modern German Cultural History and Twentieth-Century History through German Film. This track can be completed in German or in English, thus making it accessible to students in any major with an interest in the topic.

Cultural Experiences

Beyond the classroom, students will explore Bonn and Cologne through visits to museums, cathedrals, and palaces, as well as enjoy excursions along the Rhine to its castles and vineyards. A highlight of the program is a four-day trip to Berlin, a city where centuries of European history—Prussian grandeur, Cold War division, reunification, and modern innovation—are visible at every turn. Students will also have weekends free for independent travel and exploration.

Faculty and Instruction

Courses are taught by 精东传媒 faculty and local instructors. All are fluent German speakers with expertise in their fields and extensive experience living in Germany. They are eager to guide students in Bonn, where academic learning and firsthand cultural experience come together.
